Plans and Studies
The Minnehaha-Hiawatha Corridor area has been one of the most extensively planned and studied corridors in the region. Most of this planning has been land use and similar planning done in relationship to the Hiawatha LRT line, but there have also been several neighborhood-based research efforts.
Below are links to two sets of studies. The first section includes five studies that have been conducted as a part of the Minnehaha-Hiawatha Community Works project, setting the stage for future corridor area investments.
The second section links to a compilation of all research and planning done prior to the Community Works project, to provide background information on what has been studied over the past 10+ years.
RESEARCH COMPLETED AS PART OF THE
MINNEHAHA-HIAWATHA COMMUNITY WORKS PROJECT
Strategic Development Framework: A corridor framework to define coordinated strategies for future public and private investments in the Minnehaha-Hiawatha corridor.
Cultural and Historical Resources Inventory: A review of the project area’s early history to look at potential historical and cultural “themes” for consideration in the study process.
Environmental Property Assessment: A review of the publicly available environmental information regarding the environmental conditions of properties within the corridor area.
Market Analysis: A analysis of the market conditions in the corridor including interviews with corridor area businesses.
Railroad Study: An examination of the current and future operational characteristics and the current users of the rail line that extends along the east side of Hiawatha Avenue.
OTHER PLANS AND STUDIES
A wide variety of studies have been completed during the past 10+ years to help guide development in the Minnehaha-Hiawatha corridor area. Many of these studies were related to the Hiawatha LRT line, to plan land use and development related to that line.
A compilation of these studies can be found at this link. The content and conclusions from these studies has been integrated into the Strategic Development Framework process to attempt alignment in the recommendations.
